Dear Cardinal Parents and Guardians,

We are very excited about the upcoming 2017-18 school year. Last year our students earned the third highest test scores in the district and I am anticipating another increase in scores for the 2016-2017 school year. Look out for those when they get released! I appreciate the continued support from the community and I look forward to that continued partnership as we grow SBHS to “Be the Very Best” in San Bernardino.

A few things that were accomplished this past year included incorporating Link Crew as a freshmen support from the upper classmen, implementing athletic monitoring to maintain eligibility and excellence of our athletes who reflect what SBHS stands for, and successfully moving our graduation to CSUSB. We were also able to add a gate in the front of the school as well as have our entire school painted back to our school colors!

Our expectations for our students are very high and we look forward to your support in ensuring our students reach their potential. We are collectively working on the implementation of the Common Core Standards, a Positive Behavior Climate and a Culture of Academics schoolwide. Our pathways encourage students to participate in preparation for college and career readiness. These are: Engineering, Law and Society, E-Business, JROTC, Public Safety Academy, Visual and Performing Art and Sports Therapy. We continue to look at improving the processes and procedures that allow for student learning.

There are some very important changes for the 2017-18 school year that you need to be aware of.

1. Construction has begun and will continue on our football field. Due to the construction timelines, we do not have a guaranteed completion date. There may also be construction beginning on the auditorium but have not received a confirmed date.
2. One Lunch. SBHS will move to one lunch.
3. Positive Behavior Monitoring We will be requiring students to wear their school ID while on campus as a safety measure as well as a way to reward positive points to students while they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Students can earn rewards beginning on the first day so don’t miss registration where they can receive their ID and lanyard.

Thank you,

Antoinette Gutierrez, Ed.D
